Preventing Human Trafficking by Advancing Equity and Unpacking Root Causes

In this webinar, presented by Aura Freedom, we explore the root causes of exploitation and human trafficking and how to address them. The presenters examine the systemic oppression of marginalized groups, including women and girls, Indigenous and Black women/youth, LGBTQ2S+ youth, newcomers, and youth in foster care, among others. They also discuss how advancing equity and empowering youth can prevent human trafficking and build thriving communities.

Aura Freedom is a grassroots women-led organization working in Canada and beyond to end gender-based violence and human trafficking through advocacy and education, and by advancing the intersectional feminist movement.

The group’s founder and executive director, Marissa Kokkoros, says: “Human trafficking is a manifestation of inequity – the only way to truly eradicate it is to address the systemic oppressions that make certain communities the perfect targets for exploiters.”
